Condensation Reaction
A reaction in which two molecules become covalently bonded through the loss of a small molecule (usually water).
Polyester
A synthetic polymer linked by ester groups, formed from diols and dicarboxylic acids.
Polyamide
A condensation polymer joined through amide linkages, formed from diamines and dicarboxylic acids.
Diol
A molecule containing two hydroxyl ($-OH$) groups.
Dicarboxylic Acid
A carboxylic acid containing two carboxyl ($-COOH$) groups.
Diamine
An organic compound with two amino groups ($-NH_2$).
Repeating Unit
The shortest section of a polymer chain that repeats to form the entire structure.
Biodegradability
The ability of a material to be broken down by biological organisms (typical of many condensation polymers).
