Vocabulary Review Section 05
Dynamic Equilibrium
State where the forward and reverse reaction rates are equal in a closed system.
Equilibrium Constant
The ratio of product to reactant concentrations at equilibrium ($K_c$).
Le Chatelier's Principle
If a system at equilibrium is disturbed, it shifts to partially oppose the change.
Reaction Quotient
The relative amounts of products and reactants at any point in time ($Q$).
Reversible Reaction
A reaction that can proceed in both the forward and reverse directions.
Closed System
A system where energy can be exchanged with surroundings but matter cannot.
Yield
The amount of product obtained from a chemical reaction.
Position of Equilibrium
The extent to which the reaction has proceeded towards products or reactants at equilibrium.
Haber Process
The industrial manufacture of ammonia using a nitrogen/hydrogen equilibrium.
Contact Process
The industrial manufacture of sulfuric acid involving a reversible catalytic step.
