Monomer
Small chemical unit that makes up a polymer.
Polymer
Large compound formed from combinations of many monomers.
Addition Polymer
A polymer formed by chain addition reactions between monomers that contain a double bond.
Hydrocarbon
Compounds composed of only carbon and hydrogen.
Homologous Series
A series of organic compounds with the same functional group but with each successive member differing by $CH_2$.
Functional Group
A specific configuration of atoms commonly attached to the carbon skeletons of organic molecules and involved in chemical reactions.
Isomerism
Molecules with the same molecular formula but different arrangements of atoms.
Alcohol
An organic compound with a hydroxyl ($-OH$) functional group.
Ether
Organic compounds characterized by an oxygen atom bonded to two alkyl or aryl groups ($R-O-R$).
Aldehyde
Organic molecule with a carbonyl group at the end of the carbon skeleton ($R-CHO$).
Ketone
Organic molecule with a carbonyl group within the carbon skeleton ($R-CO-R$).
Carboxylic Acid
Organic acid containing the carboxyl functional group ($-COOH$).
Ester
Organic compound made by chemically combining an alcohol and an organic acid ($R-COO-R$).
Amide
Organic compound containing a carbonyl group linked to a nitrogen atom.
Nitrile
Organic compound with a $C \equiv N$ group.
